The Rochester Modi’in Partnership in collaboration with the Jewish Agency’s Shlichim department annually sends out Shinshinim for a year of service in Rochester.
The shinshinim are chosen after undergoing a lengthy selection process. They are instructed in organizing educational activities with children and youth, and conduct personal interviews with representatives of the Jewish community

Who is the program suitable for?
The Jewish Agency’s service year program in the Diaspora, which operates in cooperation with the social division of the Ministry of Defense, allows high school graduates to go on a year of volunteering in the Jewish communities before being drafted into the IDF.
What does the program include?
During the service year, the Shinshinim work within the Jewish community, in a variety of different institutions.
Usually, each Shinshin works in several places such as a school, youth movement, synagogues, JCC and more.
The Shinshinim work with the entire population, including kindergarten children, students, adults, seniors.
The Shinshinim conduct informal educational activities both in and out of the classroom.
They deliver content related to Israel, actions on topics such as Israeli music, art, places in Israel, holidays and more.
They also hold Israeli cooking sessions, social evenings, and connect directly and indirectly with the community.
The Shinshinim live with host families in the community.
